Towering red sandstone cliffs, Ponderosa pines, cicadas, crystal-clear water,
and 20"+ trout, are the images that come to mind when the Green River is thought of.
We started guiding on the Green River in 1987, when we opened the shop. We are an
Ashley National Forest permitee for the Green River. There are three sections of the river to float, totaling over 25 miles of premier
trout water. The first section is known as the "A" section, and it starts just below
the Flaming Gorge dam. The "A" section of the river flows through Red Canyon (in fact
we refer to it as the Canyon Section), and is lined with Ponderosa pines, box elders,
and aspens. This stretch of river is home to brown, rainbow, cutthroat, and cutt-bow
trout. The rainbows used to be the predominant species in the Canyon section, but the
browns make up the majority of the catch now. Little Hole is where you will take out
after floating the A section, roughly 7 miles below the dam. Little Hole is the most
popular area for wade fishers accessing the river.

The "B" section of the river is one of the greatest pieces of water you will ever
fish, mainly because of the diversity of fishing conditions and remoteness it offers
us. There are classic big river riffles and runs, pocket water, back eddies, dry-fly
flats, nymphing shoals, and bank structure for the big boys to hang out in. There
are some truly monstrous fish that live down in this section of the river. Predatory
brown trout and cuttbows are the inhabitants of this stretch, with occasional rainbows
taken, too. The wildlife watching is an added bonus on this float. You are likely to
encounter kingfishers, Stellar's jays, Clark's nutcrackers, river otters, ouzels,
waterfowl, mule deer, Redtail hawks, ospreys, king snakes, and songbirds too numerous
to mention. Our customers and guides have even spotted mountain lions and bears on
this stretch of the Green, and it is common to see moose, elk and pronghorn antelope
during the drive out. This is really a wild place to fish, which puts you into the
middle of nowhere when you are finished. Isn't it nice to know such places still
exist?
The final stretch of water we fish on the Green is the "C" section, also known as
Brown's Park. We only guide on this stretch occasionally, mainly because of the
long drive (1 hour) each way. However, when we have a day off ourselves, it is the
first place we are likely to fish. The Brown's Park stretch of the Green doesn't
receive much pressure because of its remote location; it's not uncommon for us to
fish all day without seeing another boat. Brown trout are the fish you are most
likely to catch on this stretch of the river, and you are likely to fish long and
hard for these trophies. If you put a premium on solitude and challenging fish,
the lower river is the float for you.
Trips and Fees
Day Trips
Day trips are the most common way of fishing the Green River for our guests.
You will meet your guide in the morning, head out for a day of fishing, and return
in the evening. It is a full day of fishing, with lunch and transportation at the
river included.
1 Angler/Boat $290
2 Anglers/ Boat $340
3 Anglers/ Boat $440
Overnight Trips
Overnight trips are our favorite way to show you the river. You get to see sections
of the Green at different times of the day, compared to day trips. The evening hatches
and solitude are tremendous, something you need to experience to appreciate.
No ringing phones, honking cars, or loud television at the end of the day; just
rising brown trout and soaring nighthawks.
Our overnight trips are designed with one thing in mind, taking care of everything so
you can fish. We provide the guide, tent, food, cook, and camp set-up. All you need
to do is show up with your personal items, a sleeping bag, and a strong casting arm.
2 Anglers/ Two days, one night $1040
2 Anglers/ Three days, two nights $1560.00
Additional Boats for larger parties $410/ boat/ 2 Anglers
