Fly-fishing for bonefish in the Bahamas offers some of the worlds finest shallow water flats fishing opportunities one can experience. We've been fishing these islands for almost two decades and for good reason. These islands offers some of the worlds best saltwater flyfishing opportunities. In our travels to these and other saltwater desintations we come across a gem, Crooked Island Lodge.
Located in the southern most region of the Bahamian extensive chain of islands, Crooked Island offers an experience that will have you enjoying a week of virtual solitude while enjoying some of these prolific islands best bonefishing. Bonefish aren't the only species you will have the opportunity to cast a fly to. You'll also have plenty of chances at large permit and during the right month, Key's size tarpon.

Like all islands in the Bahamas, Crooked Island has exceptional bonefishing. It's fish are large by comparision to most other saltwater destinations and plentiful. If you goal is to work on catching a lot of the "Silver Ghost" or to land the bonefish of a life time, you will have those opportunities. Although we'd have to say that it's easier to catch a fair number of these incredibly powerful fish than to land one of the islands noteworthy 10 pounders. Like all big bonefish they are incredibly challenging! You'll find in between your trophy opportunities, good sized bonefish in abundance, much more willing to take your fly.
The big surprise we found in our travels to Crooked Island Lodge was the opportunities to catch Permit. Not only were we surprised by their numbers, but also their size, the average being close to twenty pounds. And to add to the list, there are at certain times of the year large tarpon rounding out the trio of flats fish available at this wonderful destination.

Finally, you'll enjoy and island where few fish. Crooked Island Lodge simply offers a world unfettered. Most days you won't see another angler and if you do, its probably someone from the lodge. Their knowledgeable guides are well seasoned and will help you enjoy the fishing opportunities regardless of your saltwater fly fishing experience. They are all in their own right very accomplished anglers.
Should the fishing be not up to par, you'll find those things that can be controlled helping you make the most out of your stay. Great staff, excellent food and accommodations rounds out Crooked Island Lodge as a truly great saltwater fly fishing destination and one will be going back to often.
