 The Patagonia Nano Puff has become one of the most recognized outdoor pieces of clothing among outdoor enthusiast around the world, and for good reason. It’s an incredibly versatile, packable and lightweight insulated jacket and definitely a shop favorite among the staff at Western Rivers Flyfisher. This year they’ve introduced a new variation of the Nano Puff, the Nano Puff Hybrid. For those that fly-fish, this unique new jacket combines an insulated shelled upper that mirrors the qualities of the Nano Puff Jackets with a recycled R2 Midweight Fleece that drapes the bottom half of the garment. Its two jackets in one virtually! In their catalog they tout this new Nano Puff Hybrid as an alpine piece, but when we looked at it, we couldn’t stop thinking about what a great jacket this would be for fly-fishing.
The Patagonia Nano Puff Hybrid is ideal for cool weather as a layering piece when worn with today’s breathable waders. It combines two layers; an upper and lower that are appropriately placed to deal with two unique situations. The wind and water resistant shelled insulated upper layer that is exposed will help keep you warm on those cold blustery days when you’re out for a day of chucking streamers or swinging flies for steelhead. The lower half of the jacket, which is constructed of R2 Fleece, will provide needed warmth, yet the R2 Fleece will optimize the jackets ability to deal with moisture on those days when you are doing a fair amount of walking or there is a wide swing in temperature through out the day.
Each year we get to check out Patagonia’s latest offerings and updates to their tried and trues. Its rare one or two new products don’t really stand out when it comes to killer fly-fishing pieces. When it comes to jackets, it started with the Patagonia Down Sweater; still an incredible jacket. Then Patagonia introduced the Nano Puff Jacket and Nano Puff Pullover. These were lighter and more functional jackets compared to the Down Sweater when it came to fly-fishing. Now, there is even a better fly-fishing piece, the Patagonia Nano Puff Hybrid. It’s an amazing jacket, and ideal for a variety of fly-fishing conditions that we are faced with when pursing our favorite interests with fur and feather. |
